Posh: “Being in the Spice Girls, Fashion-Wise Probably Didn’t Open Any Doors”

Matt Baron/BEImages

Victoria Beckham is bringing her designs home to the UK. On the eve of her 10 dress collection hitting Selfridges in both London and Manchester, the designer herself sits down with the London Times and gives them a look at her “fourth child”. Victoria tells the London Times that fashion was always her first love — even before singing. “I was never that good a singer but I think I am good at fashion. Even when I was at school, I was always customizing my uniform.” And her fame as Posh didn’t help her fashion career. “Being in the Spice Girls, fashion-wise probably didn’t open any doors. If anything it shut doors and I’ve had to bang them down.” Now the pop star has left the stage for the drawing board and takes a hands-on approach to all her dVb lines. “Do I draw? No. Then again, nor do lots of designers,” admits Victoria. “But I know how a dress should sit. I’ve worn so many in the past and when I see the photographs I think, crikey, my boobs are up round my neck again because the corsets are too short and not cut high enough.” Victoria used all her fashion mishaps to help make her line better. “I knew I would spend a lot on the best-quality zips because, I’ve had my share of crappy zips,” she says. “I wanted a zip that undoes from both ends because then you can either put the dress on over your head or, if you don’t want to mess up your hair, you can step into it - and also, you know, going to the loo wouldn’t be this whole big palaver.” With her exacting attention to detail, luxurious fabrics and classic silhouettes, she isn’t worried about the recession hurting business despites the dresses’ four-figure price tags. “In these recessionary times, and at these prices, women are looking for something that will be an investment, aren’t they?” Click here to see all of the styles from Beckham’s new line.

Victoria Beckham’s New Short Do: “Think Gamine”

Matt Baron/BEImages

Victoria Beckham has always been willing to play with her hairstyle — from long to short to blonde to bob, we’ve seen it all. Or so we thought! Posh turned up at Marc Jacobs yesterday with a closely cropped do courtesy of Garren, the stylist who famously took Linda Evangelista short in the ’90s. Garren was so inspired by Posh that he says “it was clear that we had to go short and create a new look that embraced her beauty, great personality and body.” And the result is a short-banged gamine cut that calls to mind Jean Seberg or Audrey Hepburn in the ’50s. And the new do wasn’t the only thing getting people talking — Posh was sporting a $7 million, 19-carat diamond ring on loan from Chopard at the show. Eat your heart out, Beyonce! Tell us: What do you think of Posh’s new close crop? Do you love it or hate it?

The internet has been buzzing for months about the possibility of Victoria Beckham showing at Fashion Week, and now that it is finally here, we can confirm that Posh is in fact launching her dress collection this week. The designer is skipping the runway for a more intimate experience for the fashion elite. The 10 look collection of signature day and evening dresses will be showed by appointment only to top retailers and high-end fashion magazine editors. “This is a very personal collection for me,” says Victoria in a released statement. “I’ve always been drawn to intricate, seam-detailed designs as their structure enhances the flattering shape of a woman’s silhouette.  My signature dress collection is timeless, a modern interpretation of my inspirations.” Posh’s dresses are definitely a reflection of her own style. Created from fabrics like fine gazar and georgette silks, basket-weave cotton, taffeta and organza inlay complete with embroidery from India and hand-sewn beadwork, Victoria’s latest design fortay is the essence of sophistication and femininity. Dresses will range in retail price from approximately $1,400 - $3,500 and be sold in specialty shops and upscale department stores. Even though we won’t get to see the much-anticipated collection go down the runway, just knowing Victoria will be here at Fashion Week is exciting — maybe we’ll run into her at Christian Siriano’s runway debut at the tents? David Beckham Blogs About His “Huge” Billboards

courtesy Armani

David Beckham got the internet buzzing with his racy Emporio Armani underwear ads, and the hunky soccer star took to his own blog to talk about the unveiling event for his billboards in San Francisco. He blogs, “Well I’m sure you’ve seen the pictures but last Thursday I went to San Francisco to see the unveiling of the new Emporio Armani campaign I shot a while back. To be honest I was amazed by the huge billboard poster outside Macy’s department store, but even more amazed by the amount of people who turned up to see it! I’m always surprised by the amount of attention certain things create, but the attention this campaign has created is pretty incredible.” What else has been incredible for David? Getting to visit the Golden Gate city, blogging “It was great to meet some of the people who’d come out especially though, I’ve always wanted to visit San Francisco, so it was a great to finally get there…” We’d like to get there and see the billboards! Tell us: Have you seen the Beckham billboards in San Francisco?

Get the Scoop on Posh and Becks’s Newest Fragrance Duo

Dara Kushner/INF

You’ve gotten the chance to swoon over at David Beckham’s new Emporio Armani underwear campaign and style yourself in Victoria’s line of dVb jeans — and you’re about to have one more way to indulge in a little Posh and Becks. The couple has announced that in September they will launch pricier follow-ups to last year’s Intimately Beckham fragrances with the prestige fragrance duo Signature for Her and Signature for Him. “I am not just a famous person who is putting my name on different things and doing licensing deals all over the place,” Victoria says to WWD. “Everything I do is true to myself. With the fragrances, I designed the bottles, I got to the factory, I worked on the fragrances. I’m really the creator behind the project. You’re getting a piece of David and me with this.” And she’s optimistic about the success of the scents. “The good thing about fragrance is that it can reach out to many people,” she tells the paper. “My mom might not wear one of my dresses, but she still likes fashion, so she can be a part of that by buying the fragrance.” Tell us: What do you think about the couple’s newest enterprise? Will you buy their fragrances when they launch this fall?
