Nicole Kidman on YSL: “Meticulous and Exquisite”

Stephen Shugarman/Getty

Yves Saint Laurent had many beautiful and famous clients in his time, and until his retirement in 2002, he was still a hit with Hollywood. Nicole Kidman began as a client of Laurent’s himself — wearing a YSL gown to the 2002 Golden Globes — and continued her allegiance to the house with first Tom Ford and now Stefano Pilati at the helm. Nicole tells PEOPLE of the deceased designer, ” He was a master at designing for the female form and he defined an era. His work was meticulous and exquisite. He will be missed but his artistic vision lives on.” Click here to read more thoughts on the legendary designer from Naomi Campbell and more, and click here to see the designer’s life in photos.

Nicole Kidman’s Rule Breaking White Dresses!

Evan Agostini/AP (2)

Who says you can’t wear white after Labor Day? Leave it to Nicole Kidman to break the fashion rules — and look totally flawless doing it. The star had a whirlwind weekend in New York, promoting her new film Margot at the Wedding. Friday night, she hit a screening in an ivory Prada dress adorned with a bow, while Sunday night she attended the film’s N.Y.C. premiere in a black belted Balenciaga lace dress. We think that the snowy dresses set off the actress’s pale complexion and blonde hair perfectly, and breaking the rules is what fashion’s all about these days! Tell us: Will you wear white this fall?

Get the Look: Straight Hair is Back!

Judging by the long, pin-straight hair that ruled the Oscar red carpet — Reese, Gwyneth and Nicole — we’re all going to be spending a lot of time juggling our hairdryers and round brushes. To speed up the process and avoid arm fatigue, use a lightweight hairdryer that works in half the time, like the T3 Bespoke Labs Featherweight Dryer, $200. To achieve Nicole Kidman’s sleek ‘do, stylist Chris McMillan applied Oscar Blandi Jasmine Oil Serum, $34, before and after blow-drying to fight frizz and add shine. And to ensure her hair was perfectly straight, McMillan finished it up with a FHI flatiron, $110. He called the final look “simple and elegant, with clean lines to accent the silhouette of her dress.” If you plan on using dryers and irons on a regular basis and want to maintain the health of your hair, be sure to use products that protect hair from heat and apply a deep conditioning treatment or mask on a weekly basis.

If you can’t afford the same products the stars use, here are a few that are hair and wallet friendly.

1. T-Studio Collection by Remington Active Ion, Tourmaline & Ceramic Flat Iron, $40 at ulta.com

2. Conair ION Shine Double Ionic Turbo Styler, $33 at conair-store.com

3. John Frieda Reinforce Strengthening Triple Creme Masque, $5.00 at ulta.com

Has Nicole Kidman Gone Country?

We were stumped as to why Nicole Kidman suddenly looked so different at the Rome Film Festival — were her eyebrows darker? Was the dress a departure from her usual style? Was it just that she cut bangs? And then it hit us: She’s gone country! A few months of living in Nashville as Mrs. Keith Urban, and she’s traded in her flat-iron for a hot roller set. Gone are the sleek, straight locks of yesteryear (left), replaced with big hair, involving full curls, puffy bangs and a teased half-updo (right). What’s next for Nicole? Cowboy boots and jeans? Tell us: what do you think of Nicole’s new look?
