Call him The Fresh-Faced Prince of the Air as Prince William gets a new look while embarking on a new life training to pilot rescue helicopters. The prince, 26, arrived back in London after a romantic trip to the seclusion of the Scottish highlands with girlfriend Kate Middleton Tuesday, sparking a new round of impending engagement rumors. And gone was the beard that he grew before Christmas. The news of William’s clean-shaven return to London came as he and his brother, Prince Harry, 24, announced at the same time that they have now been given their own office by their granny, Queen Elizabeth II. William is set to be in London for some royal work and then starts training as a Royal Air Force search-and-rescue helicopter pilot later this month. This month also sees Harry beginning two-and-a-half years of training to fly British army helicopters.The princely pair’s training will even mean that they are stationed at the same base at some point in the year. When Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway hit the New York premiere of their movie Bride Wars, we couldn’t help but notice the dichotomy between Kate’s white-and-navy Oscar de la Renta gown and Anne’s simple Band of Outsiders tuxedo. Of course, it wasn’t a coincidence. Rachel Zoe, who styled both Kate and Anne for the premiere, tells WWD that the ladies, in fact, wanted to play off the archetypes of bride and groom! “Kate had this idea in her head. She wanted to play off the whole bridal theme of the movie and do something over the top. It had the drama of a bridal gown but it wasn’t totally bridal,” said Rachel. “It was Annie’s idea to do a tuxedo and my initial reaction was that they were going to look like a bride and groom…and she liked that.” We can’t wait to see what these two fashion plates have up their sleeves for the rest of their red carpets. After giving us her personal holiday recipes, Gwyneth Paltrow shares her post-holiday diet secret in her latest GOOP newsletter. Gwyneth admits, “I need to lose a few pounds of holiday excess. Anyone else? I like to do fasts and detoxes a couple of times during the year, the most hardcore one being the Master Cleanse I did last spring. It was not what you would characterize as pretty. Or easy.” Working with her doctor, a detox diet specialist, Gwyneth has created a seven-day elimantion diet that helps detox the body. “As I do not wish to subsist on lemon water in the middle of winter, I asked my doctor, a detox diet specialist, for the guidelines he uses to achieve a good detox that is not as hallucinogenic (in a bad way) as the Master Cleanse,” says Gwyneth. “What it came down to was this: you can detox easily and effectively while you continue to eat as long as you are cutting out the foods and other substances that interfere with the detoxification process.” While cutting out dairy, grains with gluten, meat, shellfish, anything processed (including all soy products), fatty nuts, nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant), condiments, sugar and obviously no alcohol, caffeine or soda, Gwyneth’s diet consist of salads, fruit smoothies, chicken, soups and lots of water. Perceptive royals-watchers have noticed that the Windsors have a new addition to the family — Prince William’s bushy facial hair. The heir to the throne has been sporting the sea-captain look in recent weeks, with photographers catching a clean-shaven Prince Harry and a noticeably shaggy Prince “Hairy” playing soccer on Christmas Eve. Wills even snagged runner-up in the Beard of the Year award, given out annually by the Beard Liberation Front to those who give the facially fuzzy a good name. Prince William joins other high-wattage names who’ve taken to letting their inner lumberjacks out, including Robert Pattinson, Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman.
